Report date:
August, 2008
General Description:
The Science Museum of Minnesota surveyed 17 museum visitors after they participated in the Exploring Properties: Surface Area activity at NanoDays 2008. This formative testing of the activity assessed the activity's ability to teach about the important role of surface area at the nanoscale.
Major Findings:
The formative evaluation of the Exploring Properties: Surface Area Activity showed that the activity conveyed to most visitors that a relationship exists between surface area and speed of reactions. About half of the visitors who recognized a relationship understood that greater surface area leads to faster reaction times, and a few visitors came to the opposite conclusion. Almost all visitors found the activity interesting, enjoyable, and easy to understand.
