Introduction to Nanotechnology Exhibition

Description:

The Intro to Nanotechnology exhibition introduces the basics of nanoscience through four interactive exhibit components. These exhibits were developed by the NISE Network; copies are located at the Museum of Science in Boston, OMSI in Oregon, and the Arkansas Discovery Network.

Objectives

Big Idea:

Things at the nanoscale are super small and have unexpected properties.

Learning goals:

Things at the nanoscale are super small.
Super small nanoparticles can have very unexpected properties.
Scientists are figuring out how to create and manipulate materials at the nanoscale through self-assembly.

NISE Net Content Map:

Nanometer-sized things are very small, and often behave differently than larger things do.

Scientists and engineers have formed the interdisciplinary field of nanotechnology by investigating properties and manipulating matter at the nanoscale.

Nanoscience, nanotechnology, and nanoengineering lead to new knowledge and innovations that weren't possible before.

Universal design:

Repeat and reinforce main ideas and concepts.

Provide multiple entry points and multiple ways of engagement

An Exhibit is a visitor experience that may take many formats such as a display of objects or interactive components; it may include graphic panels or multimedia components; it is usually an un-staffed visitor experience. A group of themed exhibits makes up an Exhibition.

The exhibits created by the NISE Network were developed through a process of prototyping, audience evaluation research, educator peer reviews, and in-depth partnerships with scientists.
