NanoFabulous, an exhibition developed by the University of Maryland, College Park Materials Research Science and Engineering Center (MRSEC) is on display at Port Discovery Children’s Museum in Baltimore, MD. The exhibit is designed to help children and their families understand how scientists and engineers discover and invent new materials from nanoscale building-blocks. The exhibition includes unique interactive components developed by MRSEC members to invite visitors to explore the processes and techniques that make nanotechnology a reality. NanoFabulous engages visitors in a variety of activities that promote learning: Lego Scanning Probe Microscope, Probes Station, Magnification Station, Near-field Scanning Optical Microscope, and a Cleanroom.
- Nanometer-sized things are very small, and often behave differently than larger things do.
- Scientists and engineers have formed the interdisciplinary field of nanotechnology by investigating properties and manipulating matter at the nanoscale.
- Nanoscience, nanotechnology, and nanoengineering lead to new knowledge and innovations that weren't possible before.
