Dr. Carolyn Aitken Nichol is the Associate Director for Education in the Center for Biological and Environmental Nanotechnology (CBEN), a Nanoscale Science and Engineering Center (NSEC) at Rice University, Houston, Texas. At CBEN, she is actively working to develop teacher training programs, to engage Houston students in science and engineering, and to enhance our community's appreciation for science, art and education.
Her PhD is in chemical engineering from The University of Texas at Austin (UT) and her post-doctoral studies were in The College of Pharmacy at UT. She has taught in The Department of Bioengineering at Rice University since 2002. Prior to Rice, she was an Assistant Professor in Diagnostic Radiology at UT MD Anderson Cancer Center and a pharmaceutical scientist at Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals. She enjoys reading banned books, going to the theater, visiting museums and parks around the world, and being a mom and wife.
