EugenieÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢s plays have been seen in productions and readings across the country at venues such as: The Public Theatre, Magic Theatre, Cutting Ball Theatre, Thick Description, Perishable, Northwest Asian American Theatre, Brava! For Women in the Arts, Opera Piccola/StageBridge, PlayLabs, Bay Area Playwrights Festival, Duke University, and others. Her work includes: "Kitchen Table"; "BÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢umblebee"; "Pilgrim; Daphne Does Dim Sum"; "Rancho Grande"; "Emil, A Chinese Play, Novell-aah!"; and "Tour Sino." Her work has been critiqued in "Asian American Playwrights and Women Playwrights of Diversity" (Greenwood Press) and published in the collections, "North American WomenÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢s Drama" and "Asian American Drama" (Alexander Street Press). "Novell-ahh!" will be anthologized in "Embodiments of Asian/American and Pacific Islander/American Sexualities" (AltaMira Press). "Sik Fan," a short film, is scheduled to go into production in 2007. Eugenie was one of the writers of the San Francisco Mime TroupeÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢s current hit, "GodFellas." She has been commissioned by Cutting Ball Theatre to adapt the myth of Ariadne and by the Magic Theatre/Sloan Science Initiative to write a short play about nanotechnology.
EugenieÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢s writing has been honored by a diverse array of prizes from the Mixed Blood vs. America Playwriting Award to a semifinalist Nicholl Fellowship in Screenwriting. She has received grants from Theatre Bay Area and the E.E. Ford Foundation for Snakewoman, an original opera libretto, and was a resident artist at the Djerassi Foundation and Millay Colony. In 2005, she was a Tournesol Playwriting Fellow at the Z Space Studio and a STAND Fellow at the Film Arts Foundation in San Francisco.
Eugenie began her career in the theatre as a dramaturge in regional theatre. She cut her teeth as Literary Manager and Dramaturg at the Magic Theatre under John Lion and Martin Esslin and served on NEA and CAC grant panels.
Eugenie has taught at a variety of schools, universities, and theatres. She teaches Classical Drama and Playwriting at Marin Academy, where she has been an Artist in Residence under the auspices of the George Lucas Educational Foundation. She has a BA in Literature from Yale and an MFA in Playwriting and Screenwriting from New York University, where she received the Graduate Achievement Award in Playwriting and Screenwriting.
