Dr. Meredith Murr, who received her PhD in Biomaterials/Biomineralization in June 2006, has appointments as Academic Coordinator with both the Center for Nanotechnology in Society (CNS) and the California NanoSystems Institute (CNSI) at the University of California, Santa Barbara. For CNS, she develops and coordinates all the education-related projects focusing on the societal implications of nanotechnology. In her role at CNSI, she is mentoring a team of graduate student scholars as they both develop and teach a new course that rigorously addresses both the scientific principles and the societal, political, and economic aspects of technologies prevalent in today’s society. Her interest in science education and public engagement intensified during her internship at the Marian Koshland Science Museum in Washington, D.C., as part of a Science and Technology Policy Graduate Fellowship with the National Academies.
