Michael joined the Discovery Science Place team as the executive director in April of 2008. His experiences in museum expansion were a result of his work with the Children’s Museum of Utah project where he assisted developing the vast array of new programs and exhibits as the museum transitioned from 15,000 square feet to 74,000. Michael began his education career working for the Aerospace Science and Technology Education Center (ASTEC) in Oklahoma City. Michael worked his way up to the Director of Programs position and learned effective experiential and informal education approaches from Teacher in Space candidate, Dr. Freda Deskin. Michael used scenario based learning approaches in a variety of informal settings including summer camps, camp-ins, outreach programs and a charter school. Michael also worked for the University of Oklahoma developing and administrating aviation summer camp programs in a five state region. Staying true to his passion for experiential education, he assisted in developing curriculum and opportunities for life changing experiences. Before moving to Tyler, Texas, Michael worked for the Omniplex Science Center team as the Chief Curator and worked with his team to develop informal science experiences for children and adults. He served on the University of Oklahoma’s Board of Directors for the Aviation Department assisting college students in obtaining a meaningful education experience. Michael has a B.A. in Art Education and a Masters Degree in History.
