The NISE Network runs a series of free online workshops to increase the number of professional development opportunities available to our partners, and create more channels for partners to share their work and learn from each other directly.

Planning a Museum & Community Partnerships Project

Wednesday, September 30, 2015
2pm - 3pm ET / 11am - 12pm PT

Presenters

  • Rae Ostman, Catherine McCarthy, and Christina Akers from the Science Museum of Minnesota
  • Keith Ostfeld and Jason Hammond from the Children's Museum of Houston

Join this conversation for an introduction to NISE Net’s new Museum & Community Partnerships project, which will support efforts by Network partners to develop or improve existing partnerships with local community-based organizations. Through these partnerships, museums will be able to extend their reach to underserved audiences and help community organizations provide high-quality STEM learning experiences to their audiences.

During the brown-bag, presenters will introduce the project and walk through the application process for the physical outreach kit. We’ll also hear first-hand from a NISE Net partner institution who has built a long-standing partnership with the YMCA.

To help create and strengthen local collaborations, NISE Net will partner with a number of national youth-serving organizations to develop a variety of professional development and public engagement resources. These will be available as both digital and physical kits, designed specifically for use in engaging new audiences in nanoscale science, engineering, and technology, in partnership with local community organizations. 100 copies of the physical kits will be available to NISE Net partners nationwide.

Come learn more about the project, its requirements, and the process to apply for an "Explore Science" kit —and be sure to bring your questions!
