NanoDays Report: Forum, Science Museum of Minnesota

About the NanoDays event(s)

Description:

Science Museum of Minnesota participated in NanoDays with performances of nano themed shows and public programs. We also displayed two nano themed exhibits and held a public forum on nano in medicine.

Type of Events:

Forum

What worked well with NanoDays:

Visitors were interested in the subject matter. They did not have much prior knowledge, but they were interested in learning more.

What wasn't as successful:

We lacked full visibility on our blow-out day (the 2nd Saturday).

What would be done differently next year:

I'd focus our efforts on a single day and have a presence throughout the museum! And maybe hold more forums (for school groups and adults).

Changes made to what NISE provided for NanoDays to better fit the institution:

We wrapped the banner around one of our volunteers and he walked around the museum to attract attention. We added a hot plate to the station with the liquid crystals (to keep them more liquid'y). We also used program materials in the Small Wonders kit provided by the Franklin Institute.

What the NISE network could have done to make NanoDays more of a success:

More stuff. More ways of finding connections to our existing exhibits (to increase visibility and presence in permanent galleries)
