NanoDays Report: Program - NISE Kit, Purdue University

About the NanoDays event(s)

Description:

Mid-America Science Museum and the University of Arkansas Little Rock Nano Technology Research Center participated in NanoDays on April 4 and 5, 2008 at Mid-America Science Museum (MASM). Our NanoDays event helped to raise public awareness of nanoscale science and engineering in central Arkansas communitt.

Type of Events:

Program - NISE Kit

What worked well with NanoDays:

The press was very supportive and insturmental in getting feedback from the visitors. The families were engaged in the NISE kit activities, especially the liquid crystal and ferrofluids activities.

What wasn't as successful:

We did not advertise early enogh and we had inclement weather the first day of the event. The lecturer was unable to attend. The lecture was geared more towards adult visitors so the student response was not that good.

What would be done differently next year:

I would have two different lectures or maybe a forum for the students. The team talked about going out to the schools inorder to reach more students. Also we discussed the need to get our advertising out sooner.

Changes made to what NISE provided for NanoDays to better fit the institution:

What the NISE network could have done to make NanoDays more of a success:

NISE network was very supportive. There were some concerns about the online graphics, but the media team helped our marketing director overcome those obstacles.
