2015 Mini-Grant Application Opens August 1, 2015! (Applications Due October 1, 2014)

Christina Akers

What’s a mini-grant?

The NISE Network is making available a limited number of small, one-time awards to support initiatives by NISE Net partners to engage their local audiences in nanoscale science, engineering, and technology topics. Requests can be made for an award up to $3,000 dollars to fund a small project or be put towards a larger endeavor.

Program Overview

Please review the Mini-Grant Program Overview (see attachments below) for basic program information, eligibility details, examples of applicable projects, and a PDF copy of the online application.

Team-Based Inquiry Professional Development Opportunity

NISE Net is inviting a small number of partner institutions to participate in an intensive, seven-month professional development experience focused on Team-Based Inquiry (TBI, a process that allows us to gather and use the information we need, when we need it, in order to improve our educational products and practices). The experience will be offered at no charge, but will require significant time from two staff members, in addition to impacting the timeline of your proposed mini-grant project. Participation will NOT affect the selection process for mini-grant applications! The application will simply gauge interest in the opportunity. For more information, please see the Program Overview below.

How do I apply?

Similar to our NanoDays application, we welcome you to use our simple online application through SurveyGizmo to apply. Applications must be submitted online by October 1, 2014.

To assist in preparing your application, you will find below a PDF and word doc copy of the online application. The actual application must be filled out online! We have also included a copy of our NISE Net Mini-Grants Program Overview (see attachments below). The Program Overview gives basic program info as well as examples of eligible projects.

Once you’ve reviewed the program materials, follow this link to the online application:

Eligibility

If you were NOT awarded a mini-grant during the previous 2014 cycle, you are again eligible to apply for a mini-grant for a different project! 2015 projects must be completed between November 1, 2014 and August 31, 2015.

We will be accepting applications from eligible organizations from August 1 through October 1, 2014. The NISE Network anticipates funding forty (40) projects from the submitted applications. All applicants will be notified via email by early November regarding the status of their application.

Resources

In 2013, the NISE Net held an online brown bag to walk partners through the mini-grant program guidelines, as well as brainstorm project ideas. A recording of this conversation is available online for your reference:  http://nisenet.org/events/online-workshop/online-brown-bag-mini-grants-2014-brainstorming-and-guidelines-recorded

A list of previously funded mini-grant projects is available online at http://nisenet.org/mini-grants

Please contact your Regional Hub Leader if you would like to discuss possible projects, or if you have any questions about the mini-grant program.  If you are not sure who your Regional Hub Leader is, check out our contacts page:  /contact
