I was hired as the ScienceWorks’ first professional executive director in August 2003. Prior to my appointment as director, I worked for ScienceWorks as both a volunteer and consultant and was part of the original advisory group that founded the museum in 2002. Before moving to Oregon, I provided marketing and management leadership at the Pittsburgh Zoo and the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts and engaged in collaborations with the Carnegie Science Center, the Pittsburgh Children’s Museum and the Carnegie Museum of Art. I have a M.A. in Speech Communication from Miami University of Ohio and have taught at several universities including DePauw University and Butler University in Indianapolis. In the first three years of ScienceWorks, I have seen the museum transform from a fledgling initiative to a recognized “community treasure.” The museum has grown and a large part of my work has been in the development of local, regional and national collaborations that share knowledge and resources among museums and other nonprofit organizations. I serve on a number of advisory boards with Southern Oregon University and have been a presenter at regional museum conferences and at the Association of Science and Technology Centers annual conference. I became involved with the NISE Network representing a small science museum. I am interested in exploring how small science centers can present exhibits of cutting-edge science. In addition, I am personally interested in the future of nano science technologies in environmental remediation.
