Robert L. Russell, Ph.D. has over twenty years of rich and varied experience in education, including extensive cross-cultural, educational, and evaluation research; university teaching (Cornell and Georgetown); and involvement in a wide range of organizations and projects involved in informal education and social marketing. He has served as director of three museums (science museum, children’s museum, Native American cultural center); as Program Director, Informal Science Education, National Science Foundation, and as a consultant to a wide range of organizations, including museums, zoos, federal agencies (Dept. of Energy, National Institutes of Health, National Institute of Standards and Technology), the National Wildlife Federation, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Lucent Technologies Foundation, the National Council of La Raza, and media organizations including programs such as Pulse of the Planet, the Weather Notebook, and a variety of Spanish-language productions for Hispanic Radio Network. Russell is Principal of Learning Experience Design, an education consulting firm that consults on project design, strategic planning, project implementation, and evaluation. He is the developer and Science Advisor for the Self-Reliance Foundation’s science education projects, including: (1) Celebra la Ciencia initiative, which has organized community coalitions in five cities and designed media, community festivals, and family events encouraging Hispanic children and families to get involved in science; and (2) ConCiencia/Hispanic Science Newswire, a weekly news service that disseminates science news in Spanish to Spanish-language newspapers, radio stations, and Internet sites across the United States.
