I am a faculty member in the department of Chemistry and Education Coordinator for our Center for Materials of Information Technology and for our NSF Materials Research Science and Engineering Center. The major focus of both centers is the development of materials for magnetic storage, both storage media and read heads.
My personal research is in the area of development and application of self-assembling templates for formation of nano and microstructures. Within the MINT Center/MRSEC this focuses on the use of block copolymer melts to form 10-20 nm diameter nano-rods. Other ongoing research within my group involves the use of nanostructured and microstructured templates to form ultrahigh surface area porous electrodes for use in chromatography and advanced energy storage applications.
