NISE Network Explore Science: Earth & Space 2020 toolkit report deadline extended to February 1, 2021

Catherine McCarthy, Arizona State University

We hope that you, your friends, family, and colleagues are all staying well. We know many of us are being affected by COVID-19 and the economic downturn. We are inspired by the outpouring of creativity and hard work as we hear stories and see ways that NISE Network partners are working to actively engage local audiences safely––often in new and different ways. We also join with all those who, at the same time, are helping dismantle racial injustice in our field and in our communities.

I wanted to share some news with you as well as a few resources from the NISE Network.

Explore Science: Earth and Space 2020 toolkit requirements and report deadline extended - new due date February 1, 2021

NISE Network partners awarded a physical Explore Science: Earth and Space 2020 toolkit were originally required to hold a spring event (March-May 2020) with Part A of the toolkit. The accompanying report for this event was originally due in June, but this reporting deadline as well as the event requirement was postponed. We will now be extending the deadline for the Explore Science: Earth & Space 2020 toolkit report to February 1, 2021.  We will follow up with more details about the report format later this year.

If you are looking to see an example of the types of data we will expect in the report, you can see a PDF of the 2019 report here:

It is our hope that partners who have received a physical Explore Science: Earth & Space 2020 toolkit Part A (shipped in early 2020) and Part B (to be shipped in late October) will be able to use these resources to engage public audiences once public events in your communities resume. However, your safety and that of your community are the priority.

Part B of the Explore Science: Earth and Space 2020 toolkit  - planning to ship late October 2020

Part B of the Explore Science: Earth & Space 2020 toolkit will include a hands-on collaborative Moon Adventure Game as well as science activities about the Moon. We are currently planning to ship Part B of the toolkit in late October. The February 1, 2021 report will also include questions about your use of Part B of the toolkit.

In early September we will be back in touch to confirm contacts and mailing addresses to be sure we are sending Part B to the best individual and location since we know that some institutions are unable to receive shipments at their primary address.

Our thoughts are with those affected by the coronavirus and its economic impacts. We are wishing you and your community a healthy passage through this challenging time and I hope to keep in touch with you.
