Nano Bite: September 2010

Welcome to the September Nano Bite, the monthly e-newsletter for the Nanoscale Informal Science Education Network (NISE Net).

What's New? Back to School!
A K-12 NanoDays Collaboration
Last NanoDays, the University of Wisconsin-Madison MRSEC collaborated with the Madison Children's Museum and 800 students and teachers at the Aldo Leopold Elementary school to create a 5' round window decorated with nanoparticle stained glass (actually hardened plastic with tiny particles of silver and gold in it).  After 6 - 7 days at the school and many, many presentations on nanotechnology and stained glass, the window is now complete and permanently installed in the arts wing of the new children's museum building.  Read more about the collaboration and download some of the materials on nisenet.org here.

National Science Resources Center Webinar
The National Science Resources Center (NSRC) of the National Academies and Smithsonian Institution are organizing a webinar on informal science learning this Thursday, September 9 from 2 - 3 pm eastern time.  The webinar will focus on disseminating information from the National Academies practitioner guide, Surrounded by Science: Learning Science in Informal Environments, with a look at learning in museum environments.  Those of you in the DC area can also participate in person at the National Museum of Natural History.  Visit the NSRC website for information about the event and to participate in the webinar.

The NISE Net will be at the Association of Science-Technology Centers Conference in Hawaii at the beginning of October.  You can find us in the ASTC Resource Center in the Exhibit Hall, presenting at sessions, at one of the Honolulu Welcomes You! Receptions on Friday evening, and hosting a breakfast Monday morning.  Check out nisenet.org for more information and a full list of activities.
