NanoDays 2011 Kit Application

The online application for 2011 NanoDays kits is now live!

The NISE Network renewal is exciting for many reasons – not the least of which is the continuation of NanoDays as the signature public outreach event for nanoscale science and technology. As we move into this second 5-year period, the NISE Net team will continue to develop and distribute high quality, hands-on activities for informal educators and research outreach specialists for public engagement about nano.

Since its introduction, NanoDays has grown into an annual series of hundreds of events that take place in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. Venues include science centers, children’s museums, universities, research labs, and a whole host of other locations where events like forums and science cafes are held. Thousands of hours of programming are delivered in this week-long period; estimated number of visitors reached in 2010 exceeds 450,000.

As in previous years, NanoDays kits come in two versions: a physical kit intended for the core project professional community of informal science educators and research outreach specialists that hold public events; and a digital version that includes all the electronic files and instructional materials for K12 educators, international collaborators, and people who want to preview the materials but can’t host events. Check out the eligibility requirements if you are not sure which version is right for you.

The 2011 kit contains a mix of old favorites and some new activities. You can preview the list of activities here; check this list throughout the next few weeks as each activity becomes linked to the NISE Net catalog. Physical kits arrive with all materials and instructions that you need- just open the box and go!

It’s easy to participate in NanoDays. Fill out the online application for a physical kit between now and December 10. You will hear about the status of your application in late December. Kits will be shipped in early January, 2011. Look for the digital kit to be available after January 15.
