During the quarantine, Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens has supplied gardening kits and flowers to the local school lunch program. In April, we made 180 mini garden kits that included a fiber pak, a bag of germination mix, a packet of lettuce seeds, and planting instructions. The garden kits were made available to students at lunch pickup spots throughout the peninsula as well as delivered to individual homes.
Throughout the month of May, we have cut thousands of daffodils at the Gardens to share with essential workers and senior living homes in our local community. We also shared daffodils through the school lunch program and the weekend lunch distribution taking place at our local YMCA. Students and their families were able to pick up a bouquet of daffodils to enjoy at home when they came to pick up their school lunches. Recently, we shared 80 potted pansies with the school lunch program.
