Online professional development workshop about research findings from a recent NSF-funded study exploring STEM Identity.

DESCRIPTION

This workshop was recorded on 1/17/23

During this online workshop, we learned about how children's and teenagers' participation in out-of-school time activities and hobbies can influence STEM identity and career interest as young adults. Research findings of a recent NSF-funded study include comparisons by gender as well as barriers to participation in out-of-school time activities. Workshop attendees also had the opportunity to learn about an upcoming NSF-funded national study exploring factors that may affect STEM identity and career interest for students traditionally underrepresented in STEM, and had input into some of the questions being asked in the study.

Presenters included:

Dr. Gerhard Sonnert, Senior Research Scientist, Harvard University

Dr. Susan Sunbury, Educational Researcher and Project Manager, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory
