In a prior online workshop in May 2021 we were joined by members of the Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI), who provided an overview of the science and engineering behind the James Webb Space Telescope (Webb). Webb is NASA’s ambitious scientific endeavor to reveal the hidden universe to our eyes using infrared technology: stars shrouded in clouds of dust, water in the atmospheres of other worlds, and light from the first galaxies ever formed. Scheduled for launch in Fall 2021, Webb will be the largest, most powerful and complex space telescope ever built and launched into space. STScI also discussed opportunities for NASA support to host community events and public engagement activities in celebration of the launch of Webb. Now, please join us for this August online workshop to hear from several NISE Network partners sharing details about their plans to engage audiences in the science and celebration of Webb. Presenters will also share new resources that will be available for events and public engagement programming that may spark ideas for your own efforts.
