American Chemical Society (ACS) 2019 Fall National Meeting Highlights

This past August, members from the NISE Network's Explore Science: Let's Do Chemistry project participated in the American Chemical Society's (ACS) Fall Meeting in San Diego, CA, which included presenting project activities and findings as part of a half-day symposium about chemistry education beyond the classroom. Additionally, during this year's ACS ChemLuminary Awards, a special ChemAttitudes Partnership Award was presented to the Kentucky Lake Local Section for their use of the Explore Science: Let's Do Chemistry kit, serving and engaging over 500 children across their rural region in hands-on chemistry activities.

Fifty years ago on July 20. 1969, astronauts of Apollo 11 stepped foot on the lunar surface capturing the imagination of the nation, and the world. Now, half a century later, it’s time for a new generation to experience the magic and majesty of that first “one small step for [man], one giant leap for [man]kind.” Many NISE Network partners have been preparing for the upcoming 50th anniversary by planning and hosting Moon landing celebration events. The Museum of Science, Boston (MOS) recently made their forums available for free download using their new Forum Archive website, thanks to funding from the National Science Foundation for the Building with Biology project. By creating this website, the MOS forum team hopes to make the forums they have developed over the years more accessible to formal and informal educators across the nation, now providing individuals the ability to download the files and use the materials without having to reach out to a team member.
