University of Vermont students, staff, and faculty from the Physics Department recently spent a day at ECHO, Leahy Center for Lake Champlain in Burlington, Vermont to host a “Physics Phun Day,” where they facilitated hands-on activities and demonstrations about how scientists trap and study very cold atoms.

Imagine Nation, A Museum Early Learning Center in Bristol, CT, and a division of the Boys & Girls Club of Bristol, celebrated space science last fall with a Junior Ranger Night Explorer outdoor event. Visitors viewed the Moon and stars using a real telescope, learned how stars form with the Star Formation activity, created a lunar mission with Moon Story Blocks, experimented with Hide and Seek Moon, and crafted a glowing stomp rocket.

Partner Highlight: California Science Center Shines a Light on Light!

The California Science Center in Los Angeles, CA has a mission to inspire science learning in everyone by creating fun, memorable experiences, even virtually! In preparation for the James Webb Space Telescope Launch, two Education Staff, Elaine and Evelyn, set out to do just that by creating a bilingual set of videos and activity sheets. The videos feature some of the satellites on display, and introduce viewers to light waves and how the James Webb Space Telescope will utilize different wavelengths of light. They even include a fun activity inspired by one from the NISE Network’s Explore Science: Earth and Space activities.

In March 2022 NASA astronaut Mark Vande Hei became the U.S. astronaut with the single longest spaceflight in history - more than 340 days! The previous record of 340 had been set in 2013 by astronaut Scott Kelly.
