Association of Children's Museums InterActivity Conference 2025

We want to send a huge thank you to all those who connected with us during last month's Association of Children’s Museums (ACM) InterActivity conference in Albuquerque, NM. We appreciate everyone who took the time to stop by the booth, talked to us during a session, or found other ways to engage with us throughout the conference. We greatly enjoyed meeting new people and catching up with old friends. Whether or not you were able to join us in person, you can download the resources shared at our booth during the conference to learn more about our latest opportunities.

Convocation on the Status of Informal Science and Engineering Education

This meeting hosted in June by NASEM brought together the research, practice, policy, and philanthropic communities to take stock of the progress made in the field over the past 15 years since the release of the National Academies Learning Science in Informal Environments (2009) report. Participants considered the impacts of this report, reflected on the trends, and shared challenges and solutions.

Navigating Changing Federal Priorities for STEM, Public Engagement, and Education

Many federal agencies are undergoing significant transitions as they align with the priorities of the new federal administration. These changes have already led to major reductions in ongoing scientific research, public engagement in STEM, and educational programs. In addition to federal staff reductions, there have been sudden terminations of existing awarded grants and the “archiving” of active solicitations. Meanwhile, the current version of the president's proposed budget includes historic cuts to STEM research, public engagement, and education.
As many of us are adapting and responding to rapid changes and uncertainty related to federal administration priorities, you may find the the following resources helpful:

Exploring Earth and Space Science with The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, Indiana
2025 marks the 100th anniversary of the largest children’s museum in the world, The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis! Providing out of this world experiences on a daily basis that captivate and inspire the minds of all ages, it should be no surprise to find many actual “out of this world” experiences that engage visitors in the science and excitement of space exploration. You can also find some of the NISE Network’s Explore Science: Earth and Space toolkit activities around the Corteva Agriscience STEMLab, where the museum also hosts many longer, classroom-style programs such as "Seeing Stars,” where participants learn about some of the ancient myths behind constellations, as well as "Out of this World Engineering," where participants attempt to solve three real problems facing individuals living on the ISS by working together as a group.
